Retirement Corner:
Over 60 Survial Guide

Grey is the new gold! Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for senior citizens to work beyond the official retirement age of 60. Here are a few tips on how to survive the workplace for those of you that want to continue to work past the retirement age:

5.     Keep fit so employers have no reason not to hire you.

1.     Retire the word “retirement” from your vocabulary. Just get better at what you do and set your own targets even if your boss does not

6.     Make the most of training opportunities. Always ask for skills upgrading. Even old dogs can learn new tricks.

2.     Love your job. If you don’t, find another one

7.     Don’t let age be an excuse for slowing you down or being set in your ways. Remember old is gold and you can still shine at work if you adapt and keep up with trends and technology.

3.     Don’t get discouraged if you get rejected in your job search. Know that there are employers out there who value older workers

8.     Loyalty pays. So, stick around if you like your job. But be prepared to earn less, especially if you make much more than your younger colleagues.

4.     Befriend younger colleagues, show them the ropes and they will look out for you.

9.     Get a life. Nurture your family ties and your friendships. Work, no matter what your age, needs an antidote. It’s called having a life outside work.
